International System of Numeration
In this system, the place value of a digit in a number remains the same as in Indian System but the name
of the periods are different beyond thousands. In a numeral, going from right to left, the value of each
place is ten times the value of the place to its right as shown:

On comparing the Indian and International system, we find:
Indian System International System NOTE
1 Lakh = 100 Thousands = 100,000 In the Indian system of numeration, starting
from the right, the first period is the ones period
10 Lakhs = 1 Million = 1,000,000
consisting of three place values–ones, tens, and
hundreds. The other periods to the left of the
1 Crore = 10 Millions = 10,000,000
ones period have two place values each.
10 Crores = 100 Millions = 100,000,000 In the International system of numeration, all
the periods have three place values each.
1 Arab = 1 Billion = 1,000,000,000
